How to find us ? Upon arriving at the airport of Heraklion you can take a TAXI or the bus from the center of Heraklion. If you rent a car from the airport you take the road towards Mires-Timpaki. Agia Galini is 80 kilometers from the airport. From the airport of Hania, you take the road to Rethimno and then to Agia Galini. Agia Galini is 120 kilometers from Hania.		Πώς   θα  μας  βρείτε. Φτάνοντας στο αεροδρόμιο του Ηρακλείου μπορείτε να πάρετε ΤΑΧΙ ή το λεωφορείο από το κέντρου του Ηρακλείου. Αν νοικιάσετε αυτοκίνητο από το αεροδρόμιο παίρνεται τον δρόμο προς Μοίρες-Τυμπάκι. Η απόσταση από το αεροδρόμιο είναι 80 χιλιόμετρα. Από το αεροδρόμιο των Χανίων, παίρνετε το δρόμο προς Ρέθυμνο και μετά προς Αγία Γαλήνη. Η απόσταση είναι 120 χιλιόμετρα.		Hoe ons te vinden ? Vanaf de luchthaven van Heraklion kan een taxi genomen worden tot aan het hotel. Indien je een auto huurt aan de luchthaven, dien je de weg “Mires – Timbaki” te volgen. Agia Galini is ongeveer 80 kilometer verwijderd van de luchthaven. Vanaf de luchthaven van Hania, dien je de weg naar “Rethimno” te nemen. Agia Galini is zowat 120 kilometer verwijderd van Hania.

Agia Galini is a beautiful, small fish village on the south coast of Crete. About 800 people live here and it is capable of hosting 2.500 visitors. You can find many restaurants, where you can taste the delicious cretan cuisine, traditional coffee houses for raki (the local strong alcoholic drink) and appetizers, cafes and bars for your entertainment at night, as well as shops with souvenirs, jewelers' stores etc.		Στην παραλία μπορείτε να κολυμπήσετε στην καθαρή και ήσυχη θάλασσά μας. Από το λιμάνι ξεκινούν καραβάκια που σας πάνε σε διπλανές παραλίες (Πρέβελης-Άγιος Παύλος-Άγιος Γεώργιος). Μπορείτε να επισκεφτείτε τους αρχαιολογικούς χώρους της Φαιστού και της Γόρτυνας, καθώς και άλλα ενδιαφέροντα μέρη που βρίσκονται, μερικά χιλιόμετρα από την Αγία Γαλήνη.		Agia Galini is een mooi klein vissersdorpje gelegen aan de zuidkust van Kreta. De 800 mensen die hier wonen, kunnen zowat 2500 toeristen huisvesten. Je vindt er diverse restaurantjes, waar je kunt genieten van de typische Kretenzer keuken, traditionele koffiehuizen waar je de plaatselijk “raki” (lokale jenever) kan proeven, cafés en bars, diverse winkels met souvenirs, juweliers, etc.
At the beach you can swim in our clean and calm sea. From the port, small boats take you to the nearby beaches (Prevelis-Agios Paulos-Agios Georgios). You can visit the archaeological sites of Festos and Gortinas, as well as many interesting places that are a few kilometers away from Agia Galini.		Ο σημερινός οικισμός της Αγίας Γαλήνης, βρίσκεται χτισμένος πάνω στην αρχαία μινωική πόλη (ΣΟΥΛΙΑ). Εδώ υπήρχε ναός αφιερωμένος στην θεά ΑΡΤΕΜΗΣ. Απομεινάρια αυτής της πόλης και του ναού, όπως κτίρια, τάφοι, μάρμαρα και δυο γρανιτένιες κολώνες που κοσμούν έως σήμερα την εκκλησία του χωριού, έχουν βρεθεί, στα θεμέλια των νέων σπιτιών της Αγίας Γαλήνης.		Je kunt er ook gaan zwemmen in een propere en kalme zee. Vanuit de visserhaven, dicht bij de kust, kan je mee kleine bootjes naar omliggende baaien varen (Previli - Agios Paulos - Agios Georgios). Je kunt in de buurt ook de archeologische sites van Festos en Gortinas bezoeken.
Agia Galini on this location is built on the ancient Minoan town (SOYLIA). There was a temple, which was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. Remains of this town and temple, such as buildings, graves, marbles and 2 pillars made of granite -that decorate up to today the village's church- have been found in many of Agia Galini's new houses' foundations. According to the tradition, it was from this point that Daedalus and Ikaros flew, in their attempt to escape from Minoa. Our borough is going to construct a monument, over the port's rock, for these pioneering aviators.		Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση από αυτό το σημείο πέταξαν ο Δαίδαλος και ο Ίκαρος, στην προσπάθεια τους να ξεφύγουν από τον Μίνωα. Ο δήμος μας έχει προγραμματίσει να κατασκευάσει ένα μνημείο, πάνω στο βράχο του λιμανιού, για τους πρωτοπόρους αυτούς αεροπόρους.		Agia Galini is oorspronkelijk gebouwd op een oud dorpje (Minoan - Soylia). Er stond een tempel voor de godheid Artemis. Overblijfselen van de oude stad, graven, 2 granieten zuilen (welke in de lokale kerk terug te vinden zijn), zijn allen terug gevonden bij het bouwen en verbouwen van de huizen in Agia Galini. Volgens de traditie, zijn Daedalus en Ikaros proberen te ontsnappen vanuit Minoa. Beiden standbeelden staan op de rots, in het haventje.
Agia Galini owes its name to a princess from Byzantium, who while traveling to the Sacred Lands was confronted a large storm on the high seas and as she was pleading for The Virgin Mary's help, she vowed to build a temple where they would be stranded. The ship grounded safely, on the village's leeward beach, which was always calm, and the princess began to construct the temple, which she named PANAGIA GALINI (Virgin Mary's Calmness) and with the passing of years it finaly became known as AGIA GALINI. The temple today is the village's cemetery. The modern village was constructed in 1884, from families that came from Melampes and other villages of the area, developing economical and merchant activity via the port. Tourism began to develop about 30 years ago.		Το σημερινό της όνομα η Αγία Γαλήνη το οφείλει, σε μια πριγκίπισσα του Βυζαντίου, η οποία στο ταξίδι της προς τους Αγίους Τόπους, αντιμετώπισε με το πλοίο της, μεγάλη καταιγίδα στο πέλαγος, και ζητώντας την βοήθεια Της Παναγιάς, έκανε τάμα να χτίσει ένα ναό στο μέρος που θα έβγαιναν. Πραγματικά το πλοίο άραξε σώο, στην απάνεμη παραλία του χωριού, που ποτέ δεν σηκώνονται κύματα, και η πριγκίπισσα άρχισε να οικοδομεί τον ναό, που ονόμασε ΠΑΝΑΓΙΑ ΓΑΛΗΝΗ και με τα χρόνια έγινε ΑΓΙΑ ΓΑΛΗΝΗ. Ο ναός αυτός είναι το σημερινό νεκροταφείο του χωριού. Στην σημερινή μορφή το χωριό άρχισε να οικοδομείτε το 1884, από οικογένειες που ήρθαν από τις Μέλαμπες και άλλα χωριά της περιοχής, αναπτύσσοντας μεγάλη οικονομική και εμπορική δραστηριότητα μέσω του λιμανιού και τουριστική ανάπτυξη τα τελευταία 30 χρόνια		De naam “Agia Galini” is afkomstig van een Byzantijnse prinses. De prinses, die tijdens haar reis naar het heilige land, verrast werd door een metershoge storm, bad tot de heilige Maria om hulp en beloofde een tempel te bouwen waar ze veilig zou stranden. Zij strandde veilig aan op de kust en begon een tempel te bouwen, welke ze noemde: “PANAGIA GALINI” (kalmte van de heilige Maria). Door de jaren heen werd de naam gewijzigd in Agia Galini. De tempel is nog terug te vinden op de begraafplaats. De moderne stad werd gebouwd in 1884 door families die kwamen van Melampes en uit andere buurdorpen. De start van economische activiteiten rond het haventje was een feit. Het toerisme begon echter later, ongeveer 30 jaar terug.
Nowadays, about 800 people live in Agia Galini who is occupied with tourism, fishing, agriculture and merchandise. Agia Galini is in the center of South Crete, and you can visit all the south coasts, which still preserve their natural beauty unaltered. Even the archaeological sites of PHAISTOS, GORTINAS, AGIAS TRIADAS are 20 kilometers away. The southern mountain IDI or PSILORITIS, with its beautiful villages and landscapes, are suggested for one-day excursions or even hiking. With the public buses (KTEL) you can visit Rethimno, Hania, Heraclion, and other areas of the island.		Στην Αγία Γαλήνη ζουν 800 κάτοικοι που ασχολούνται με τον τουρισμό, την αλιεία, την γεωργία και το εμπόριο. Με βάση την Αγία Γαλήνη, στο κέντρο της νότιας Κρήτης, μπορείτε να επισκεφτείτε όλα τα νότια παράλια της Κρήτης, που διατηρούν αναλλοίωτη όλη την φυσική τους ομορφιά. Ακόμα οι αρχαιολογικοί χώροι της ΦΑΙΣΤΟΥΣ, της ΓΟΡΤΥΝΑΣ, της ΑΓΙΑΣ ΤΡΙΑΔΑΣ, είναι σε απόσταση 20 χιλιομέτρων. Ο νότιος ορεινός όγκος του βουνού ΙΔΗ ή ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ, με τα όμορφα χωριά και τα ωραία κάλους τοπία, προσφέρονται για μονοήμερες εκδρομές ή ακόμα και για πεζοπορία. Με τα λεωφορεία του ΚΤΕΛ μπορείτε να επισκεφτείτε το Ρέθυμνο, τα Χανιά, το Ηράκλειο και άλλες περιοχές του νησιού.		Momenteel houden de zowat 800 inwoners van Agia Galini zich bezig met het toerisme, visserij, landbouw en de zakenwereld. Agia Galini situeert zich in het zuidoosten van Kreta, vanwaar je gans de zuidkust, die beschikt over een natuurlijke schoonheid, kan bezoeken. Ook de archeologische sites van Phaistos, Gortinas, Agias Triadas liggen amper 20 kilometer verwijderd.  Een aanbevolen eendaagse excursie is zeker de berg IDI of PSILORITIS, met zijn prachtige dorpjes en landschappen. Met de lijnbussen kan steden als Rethimno, Hania, Heraklion bezoeken.
